Drama in the streets of Prague: A drunk and bedraggled man stole a taxi, then smashed it in garages
An extremely dangerous incident took place last Monday in Prague. A drunken and fetid man with a driving ban stole a taxi car and drove it through the streets of the capital at high speed. Traffic lights and traffic signs were ignored. The wild ride ended with a crash in the underground garages.
A 32-year-old man first got into a taxi in Prague 8 as a regular customer, but a few seconds later the driver threw him out of the car and drove away. The driver feared for his life and did not defend himself.
“The victim, who did not have a mobile phone with him, quickly ran to the nearest station, where a policeman reported the whole time. The moment the policemen learned about this case, they immediately started looking for you,” informed Prague police spokeswoman Violeta Siřišťová.
Meanwhile, the thief drove through Na Florenci and Sokolovská streets, where several pedestrians were in danger. In Ke Štvanice, he then hit a motorcyclist, who fell on the road after the collision, and on the Mánes bridge, he drove again on the sidewalk, which was followed by several pedestrians at the time.
The thief’s journey ended in a traffic accident in the underground garages in Prague 7. “He broke through the barriers and then crashed into concrete pillars. The vehicle then caught fire,” described Siřišťová. After the crash, he was detained by the police, who measured over two and a half per thousand. The drug test also came out positive, and the man was also banned from driving.
The court therefore sent him to custody. “Criminal officers of the First Department of Prague III accused the 32-year-old man of committing acts of public endangerment, extortion, endangerment under the influence of a drug, obstructing the execution of an official decision and report, unauthorized measures, forgery and alteration of a means of payment. In case of conviction, there is a risk of up to eight years behind bars.” Sirišťová added.
Politicians are looking for witnesses who threaten the taxi hijacker with his dangerous behavior. They can call 158 or come to the police service.
