Risen to the fore as the setting of the well-known novel by Agatha Christie Murder on the Orient Express, the magnificent train boasts a stunning collection of 17 vintage carriages made between the twenties and the thirties, different from each other, with their own stories and adventures, with colors and furnishings carefully finished by master craftsmen: restored to their original splendor thanks to a skilful restoration, today they are ready again for passenger transport in the golden age of rail travel.
Luxurious, refined and equipped with comfort, they boast brocades, inlaid woods, very comfortable seats and look like real living rooms where to spend time admiring the view but also tasting the culinary specialties of the highest quality, expertly prepared by a team of French chefs: meals are served in the elegant dining cars (Etoile du Nord, Oriental and Lalique) while breakfast and afternoon tea in the comfortable cabins.
Furthermore, those who want to enjoy a pleasant break between a drink, a cocktail and a liqueur in a welcoming atmosphere enriched by the sound of the piano, will find the sophisticated bar carbeating heart of the magnificent convoy.
During the night, however, the cabins become comfortable rooms with bunk beds, soft lighting and fresh and precious linen: it also has each cabin with sink and hot and cold water.
But it does not end there, to complete the experience, here is it Boutique at the bottom of the Lalique carriage, where you can buy souvenirs of the unforgettable journey aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient Express: the proposals range from crystal objects, to clothing in cashmere and silk, to graceful Art Noveau objects such as, for example, lamps table in brass.
The dream itineraries to experience a fairytale
Originally, the grand train ran twice a week from Paris to Istanbul passing through Strasbourg, Munich, Vienna, Budapest and Bucharest.
From 1919, thanks to the opening of the Simplon tunnel, it was also possible on the connection with Italy from Calais and Paris to Istanbul and Athens via Lausanne, Milan, Verona, Venice, Trieste, Zagreb, Belgrade, Sofia and Thessaloniki.
Today, the most classic path is the Venice-Paris-London but all of great interest are also the other itineraries that touch Prague, Vienna, Budapest and, inevitably, the timeless Paris-Istanbul.
