In most of the statutory cities, the opposition movement ANO won this year’s municipal elections. Out of 13 regional cities, the movement of former Prime Minister Andrej Babiš has a certain victory in eight of them. In the remaining five regional cities, the governing parties succeeded. The Czech Statistical Office announced the counting of all precincts in the Czech Republic shortly after six o’clock in the morning.

In Prague, the coalition Together for Prague (ODS, KDU-ČSL, TOP 09) won, in Brno the candidate Together – ODS and TOP 09, in Pilsen the coalition Together – ODS, KDU-ČSL, TOP 09 and in Liberec the coalition of Mayors for the Liberec Region (SLK ) with TOP 09 and KDU-ČSL. ODS won in České Budějovice.
The ANO movement won in Hradec Králové, Jihlava, Karlovy Vary, Olomouc, Ostrava, Pardubice, Ústí nad Labem and Zlín.

Of the other 14 statutory cities, i.e. those headed by the mayor, ANO won in the current elections in nine of them. In Mladá Boleslav, the movement ran with Election for Mladá Boleslav.
In Frýdek-Místek, the Naše město FM group won. In Kladno, Election for Kladno defended its first place, in Most the ProMOST movement and in Třinec the candidate Osobnosti pro Třinec. ČSSD won again in Karviná.
Four years ago, ODS succeeded in three of these 14 statutory cities. She won then in Jablonec nad Nisou, Mladá Boleslav and Teplice. ČSSD won in Frýdek-Místek.
Senate elections
The winner of the first round of the senate elections is the opposition movement ANO before ODS, KDU-ČSL and TOP 09, the defeated movement STAN. The SPD movement will have the prime representation in the final, which will be in a week. The ruling parties will retain their majority in the upper chamber regardless of the election result.
After counting nine tenths of the senate precincts, the ANO movement had a chance to add another 17 senators to Ladislav Václavac in Bruntálsk, who defended the mandate. Similarly, KDU-ČSL won a senator in the person of Petr Fiala in Orlickoústek and can defend the other six. ODS has nine finalists in the game, TOP 09 has four.
The highest turnout in the elections in this year’s first round of Senate elections was in the electoral district of Jihlava, where Senate President Miloš Vystrčil (ODS) is defending his mandate. 48.9 percent of voters went to the polls there.
Conversely, the lowest turnout was in the Most district, where 32.7 percent of voters cast their vote. In one of the precincts in Silesian Ostrava, no voter arrived. In Ústí nad Labem, in the precinct at the student dormitory in Klíšská street, 15 voters out of a total of 500 registered voters came to the first round of senate elections, and the voter turnout thus represented 3.2 percent.

The first election results were tallied in the smallest municipalities and regions. The Czech Statistical Office first received the results of the municipal elections at 14:31 from the municipalities of Chobot in Strakonick, Jahodov in Rychnovsk and Hlohovice in Rokycansk. The first Senate results were then announced at 2:38 p.m. from one of the three constituencies in Příchovice in the Pilsen Region. Twelve of the 72 voters came, ten were valid votes.
Voting went without any serious problems, only minor incidents were dealt with. “Some fellow citizens may feel the need to express their opinion with some kind of exhibition,” said Tomáš Jirovec, director of the Department of Elections of the Ministry of the Interior, on Radiožurnál’s broadcast.
He gave an example of spraying around the rooms. In Podůlšany in Pardubice, someone apparently sprayed the municipal office, where the polling station is located, overnight.

People did not elect their representatives in 11 municipalities, where it was not possible to successfully compile candidates. By-elections could be held here in January. Until then, the municipalities will be managed by administrators appointed by the Ministry of the Interior with limited competences.
Some municipalities also used local elections and held referendums. They could express their opinion in 14 municipalities. In them, they decided on the construction of houses, the mining of gravel and sand, or the incinerator.
In the municipal elections four years ago, 47.34 percent of voters voted. In the first round of senate elections two years ago, it was 36.7 percent.
The final results of the midday municipal elections in 2018 were announced on Sunday at 8.30am. During the first round of senate elections two years ago, we knew the candidates on Saturday at 10:56 p.m. The second round always takes place a week later, this year it will be September 30 and October 1.
