“We realize that many people often do not exercise their right to vote simply because it is not in their power to get to the polling station on time and combine voting with other daily duties. That is why we want to make the logistics associated with elections as simple as possible for Czech citizens and provide them with the opportunity to ride to their destination comfortably, safely and at a favorable price,” describes the offer for discounted fares, Uber operations manager for the Czech Republic, Štěpán Šindelář. According to him, this initiative can help to ensure that the highest number of residents is chosen for the selection of future representatives and senators.
Another of the similar carriers operating in the capital is the company Bolt, which does not have any special campaign for the elections. “However, we give discounts all the time throughout the year. For example, a new user who registers with us has a fifty percent discount on the first five rides, which can also be used for the trip to the elections,” says Sylva Sulaimanová from the Bolt company.
Free and responsible
On Friday and Saturday, the company Rekola, which organizes bicycle sharing in Prague, has also prepared a special event. “The polling stations will be open on Friday from 14:00 to 22:00 and on Saturday from 8:00 to 14:00. There are a lot of them around Prague and the nearest one, and those interested can travel back again on the retreat. With the code jeduvolit2022, they will have two free rides within thirty minutes. The code is valid until Saturday midnight,” explains Honzo Střech from Rekola.
Another bike-sharing company, Nextbike, offers free transportation on election days. “More investment in urban space for all, support of different modes of transport and direction of the city in such a way that future generations can live well in it as well.” You can influence all of this now, so see your electoral superpower and go to the polls,” invites the company and offers free transport in the form of a voucher for a free ride.
The condition for Nextbike is to ride during the elections on September 23 and 24 this year and to observe a ten-minute break between individual rentals. After that, just add the jedvolit voucher to the menu in the application and the credit for two hour rides will be loaded. But users have to pay for the electric scooter. “This year, we did not prepare a discount event for the ride to the polling station,” said Václav Petr, operations manager of Lime in the Czech Republic.
According to the Czech Statistical Office, just under 47 percent of the population participated in the main electoral city four years ago, which is 425,937 submitted envelopes. In 2014, only less than 38 percent of the capital’s residents voted.
