For them, it’s not over. Three years after the Lubrizol and Normandie Logistique industrial disaster of September 26, 2019 in Rouen (Seine-Maritime), the unitary collective Lubrizol – which brings together trade unions, victims’ associations and political parties – calls for demonstrate Monday, September 26, 2022, at 6 p.m., in front of the Rouen courthouse. Actions are also offered during the races and the Rouen marathon this weekend.
“We are still awaiting the additional expertise requested by the investigating judges, which is supposed to shed some more light on the possible causes of the fire and the shortcomings of Lubrizol, Normandie Logistique and the State”, explains the collective. . The conclusions of this additional expertise were expected for January 2022. “It should be October,” hopes Simon de Carvalho, of the Lubrizol disaster victims’ association (ASL).
“Free the study from danger!” »
In this sprawling legal file, the ASL is still campaigning to recover the danger study and the impact study of the Seveso high-threshold Lubrizol plant. “We’ve been fighting this for three years and we still don’t have full access to it. It is inadmissible”, sighs Julia Massardier, lawyer for the ASL.
“Free the study from danger!” It is on this document and only on this document that we can see if the State has done its job well, continues Simon de Carvalho. Citizens must have access to it. “The prefecture specifies, for its part, that this document is not divulgable, because it “includes sensitive information whose dissemination may have consequences for the safety and security of the industrial site”.
The asbestos issue
At the same time, the ASL worked on the issue of asbestos and submitted new acts to the judge on this issue. As a reminder, the roof of the A5 building of the Lubrizol factory, affected by the fire, was made of fiber cement, a material comprising asbestos fibres. “There are irregularities in the analyzes carried out by the State services, insists Simon de Carvalho. The roof was just under 10,000 m2. For experts, if 10% of this roof burns, there are 2.5 billion billion asbestos fibers projected into the air. We cannot say that there is no subject, we want it to be dealt with in criminal proceedings. »
These citizens are mobilized to know the truth. “But it’s very complicated and we feel a bit alone in this matter. We would like our elected officials, who are also civil parties, to be more active. It is their duty. A call from the foot that these activists will not fail to repeat, Monday, September 26, during their demonstration.
