Historically, community social services for people with a more severe form of autism were completely absent in Prague, which is why, after the two households established in 2020 and 2021, another facility is being opened, the operation of which is ensured by Diakonie Praha. Thanks to this, the capacity for people with this form of disadvantage in Prague increases by 15 beds, another 15 places in community households of providers are in the reconstruction phase and will gradually become available within the years 2023 to 2025.
“Residential community services for people with a more severe form of autism are insufficient in Prague, which is why, as the capital, we have been working with a number of providers for the past four years to develop capacities for this target group. I would like to thank Diakonia Prague very much for the successful cooperation, thanks to which another dignified facility with professional care is being created in Prague this year, which will be a real home for clients,” said Milena Johnová, councilor. m of Prague for the area of social policy and healthcare.
“I am very happy that it was possible to display the new object of Diakonia in Stodůlky in a relatively short time. As a city, we contributed to this project by transferring the land for a symbolic amount, which is a rather non-standard property operation. I firmly believe that the city’s land serves a purpose that we need and appreciate in Prague. This is what the management of municipal property is supposed to be about,” explained Jan Chabr, head councilor. m of Prague for the area of property management and property shares.
The capital city has been supporting the creation of the service in Stodůlky since 2019, first by applying for an investment subsidy from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, then by transferring the necessary land for the construction, and at the beginning of 2022 with a one-time investment subsidy of one million crowns. Currently, the City Hall m of Prague includes the entire service in the regional social services in order to provide long-term financing of operating costs.
“It’s great to have another alternative for people who need intensive support. I believe that a household is created that is specifically adapted in terms of staffing and environment, such as the layout of the rooms or enough space for safe movement. In cooperation with the management of the services, we are already discussing specific clients so that this new service is effectively used for the most vulnerable clients who sell a regular network of social services,” added Dita Vojířová, regional coordinator of care for people with autism.
“We are very happy that we managed to turn this vision into reality. The last year was intense both in terms of the buildings themselves, as well as in terms of administration and fundraising. I am pleased that we can now present the finished project and open it to clients from next year. I believe that this will help many other families in a difficult life situation. I would like to thank everyone who supported the Daniel Home project in any way and helped us bring it to the finish line,” concluded Andrea Vachtlová, director of Diakonie ČCE – Prague center.
The construction as such began in the summer of 2021 and the total budget of the event was approximately 22 million crowns, part of which is covered by public resources and part by the collection of Diakonie Praha. The service will be included in the social services network of the capital from the new year.
