Russia takes measures to increase the volume of traffic along the Northern Sea Route
More than 22 million tons of cargo was delivered via the Northern Sea Route in the first half of 2022, Russia is accepting passengers to increase traffic. |
This was stated to RIA Novosti by the Ambassador on behalf of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Chairman, Committee of Senior Officials of the Arctic Council Nikolai Korchunov.
“The trend towards an increase in cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route has been observed for more than a year. In 2021, the volume of transportation reached a record, exceeding 33.5 million tons. Over 22 million tons were transported in the first half of 2022. – said the diplomat. The Northern Sea Route with a length of more than 3 thousand nautical miles (5556 kilometers) connects the Barents Sea and the Bering Strait, it is the shortest route between Europe and Asia, as well as the shortest sea route between the Far East and the European part of Russia. The route for the transportation of goods from the Far East to Europe using the Northern Sea Route is 14 thousand kilometers. |
