Polish tourists support Greece
This year, in the top five markets for inbound tourism for many main destinations in Greece, Polandthat in the end its outbound tourism was not affected by the war in Ukraine, as initially feared.
Since the 80’s the first Poles discovered Greece for holidays and specifically the beach of Katerini where they headed by road, while at the beginning of the 90’s organized charter flights started, we reach today where tourism from Poland is an important market for our country.
The destinations visited by Polish tourists are the Southern Aegean Sea and his islands Ionian. In Rhodes the Polish market is third this year after the British and Germans, with almost 40,000 arrivals on direct flights per month, during the peak months, while in Kos the market position was 4th in arrivals after the Dutch who were in 3rd position for July and August, but with a small difference.
And in Corfu, Polish tourists ranked 5th in arrivals, with almost 25,000 they arrive directly at its airport only in August. In Zakynthos the arrivals from Poland rose to 3rd place after those of Britain and Italy with over 20,000 throughout the summer.
Almost 70,000 Poles came to Heraklion airport with direct flights tourists in July and August, earning a place in the top ten inbound tourism markets.
According to his data Institute of the Association of Greek Tourist Companies (INSET), most Poles travel abroad during summer months, between June and September. The top-5 destinations for 2021 were Germany (26%), the UK (7%), Croatia (7%), the Czech Republic (7%) and Italy (6%). The most popular destinations in Greece for tourists from Poland 2021 was the South Aegean and the Ionian Islands, an element that seems to be confirmed as well for this year. The Average Length of Stay last year it was lower by 10.9% of the country’s total (7.1 overnight stays versus 8.9 nights).
According to INSET data, the short-term outlook of the Polish economy remains strong (positive growth rates, further improvement in the economic climate and forecasts for a reduction in unemployment), aided by favorable fiscal conditions and monetary conditions and the increased absorption of Community funds.
Market sources report that Poles are now choosing 4-star and 5-star hotels for their holidays, taking a good place among the big markets.
