Prague showed the new cable car on Petřín. It will have a glass roof
One of the most iconic and most visited attractions in Prague will undergo a significant change. The transport company selected the design of the new cable cars in Petřín. Passengers could ride in them for up to two years.
The Czech studio Anna Marešová Designers became the winner of the international competition for the design of the new cable car cars on Petřín, which will replace the old ones from the 1980s. He has already designed the T3 Coupé excursion tram for the Prague transport company.
“We took the task of designing a new look for the next generation of the Petřín cable car very responsibly, because each of the previous generations shaped the image of Petřín as a completely unique location of world importance,” said Adam Scheinherr, Prague’s deputy mayor for transport.
The new cable car was chosen by a five-member jury chaired by the head of the industrial design studio at the University of Applied Arts in Prague (UMPRUM). The architect Patrik Kotas, who is responsible for the design of the trains on line C of the Prague metro, the tram line at Barrandov or the Střížkov metro station, also sat in it.
“We wanted to avoid a sporty or ostentatious appearance and chose the path of sustainable and functional design. We maximized the view and created an exposed and airy form of the cable car for the best possible riding experience. I believe that it will serve people well and entertain them for at least the next 30 years, ” believes the chief designer of the project, Anna Marešová.
The transport company plans to announce a contract for the purchase of new vehicles by the end of the year. The first passengers could ride in late 2024.
