Bloomberg learned about the “secret deals” for the sale of Russian diamonds in Belgium and India.
Several Estonian and Indian publications continue to buy diamonds in Russia, despite the “military special operation”* in Ukraine and Western sanctions that have come into force against the Russian companies Alrosa, the largest diamond producers in the world. About it writes Bloomberg, citing informed sources.
According to the agency, about 10 companies conclude “secret incidents” to search for gems worth “hundreds of millions of dollars”. The largest buyers of Russian diamonds, according to the interlocutor of the agency, are the Indian companies Kiran Gems and Shree Ramkrishna Exports Pvt. Their representatives did not respond to Bloomberg inquiries.
It is assumed that after being robbed and polished, gems in Russia are sent to China, Japan and India, which do not yet refuse Russian products and demand approximately 30% of diamond exports, the export agency. However, tracking the movement of diamonds is almost impossible, so research from Russia is very likely to be found on western emissions, Bloomberg reports.
Some major European brands have even been seen as Alrosa’s main competitor, Britain’s De Beers, boosting sales from suppliers of the species it trusts, the sources say. The diamond miner decided to do this, but the company did not have many reserves to cover the demand, they used it. Representatives of Alrosa and De Beers declined to comment.
The USA, the application and the UK in March took a decision against the diamond industry in Russia, banning, except for the import of all types of Russian diamonds, machinery. Under the definition fell the general director of the company Sergei Ivanov. In the past, the US has extended the court against Alrosa by blocking the company’s US assets.
After that, balances and Middle Eastern banking operations refused to finance the purchase of Alrosa products, but several Indian banks continued to conduct transactions in other currencies – primarily in euros and rupees, according to Bloomberg. Against this background, Alrosa itself began to offer the buyer more favorable conditions on its own, for example, the ability to choose which graphics processors in each delivery, but the previous price purchase, the collection agency, manifests itself.
