Brno wants to drive people from their homes to public transport stops so that they can leave their cars at home
Germans, you can also order the mobile application of the CITYA company, which was originally developed and is currently being used by people in Annecy near Prague.
The user chooses an entry point and a city where he wants to exit. We work with so-called virtual stops, where the bus can stop safely, describes the service, CITYA’s operational editor Ondej Miura. The passenger will then receive a notification on his mobile phone that the minibus is waiting for him. According to him, the virtual stop should not be less than seventy meters from his house.
The project called Klikbus, according to traffic editor from the Brno transport company Jan Seitl, will pay off, especially in the Masaryk district, where the service will be tested. In this area, there are a number of localities that are within walking distance of the existing lines. It’s a very lazy urban street, he explains. According to him, it is a better option not to extend public transport lines.
During the two-month trial period, the services will be used free of charge for the transport company and passengers. We are talking about reaching the bus stop in a maximum of ten to fifteen minutes from the ordering service, says Seit. One vehicle, as long as it is available, will be in operation daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
The novelty is also designed for the general public due to the mobile application, which is not always used by the elderly. According to Brno Mayor Markta Vakov (ODS), people should be motivated to use public transport and leave their cars at home. Where people have a long way to stop and choose a car, they will have this service at their disposal, he adds.
In recent years, the transport company has been running a senior bus service for senior citizens. Newbies will always have access to the bags, without an application. We are talking about the fact that the elderly would call the information lines and order it there for them, Miura tweeted.
In two months, they will learn if the transport company wants to continue with this project after the pilot test. Then this service will either be paid for, or it will end in a similar failure as the Tram Warning app, which was supposed to warn people on the streets through a mobile phone notification about the danger of running into a tram. She worked with the idea that pedestrians don’t take two things to their mobile phones on the road.
However, this project paid off not only in terms of public opinion, the application was downloaded only by less than 1000 people, but the problem was also agreed upon by cooperation with the supplier. The supplier sent us an evaluation of the project and a calculation for its delivery, but these conditions are completely unfair to us, said Hana Tomatkov, the spokeswoman for the transport company at the time.
