Across from the hospital and next to the children’s playground in Vlašská street in Malá Strana, Prague 1 is completing a sports field for ball sports, which will be free for public use. In the future, local associations should take care of the operation. Next year, in the spring, an outdoor gym, the so-called workout field, will be added to the site. This was reported by the city councilor Richard Bureš (ODS).
The concrete patch by the children’s playground had been neglected for years. Part of the land is owned by the capital city, part by the first city district. The municipality requested a loan so that it could build a freely accessible sports field.
On an area of 9 x 13 meters, the town hall is completing a classic multifunctional field for football, basketball and other ball sports. She repaired the walls and built a clubhouse to store nets and other equipment. A ping-pong table was installed.
“From the end of September, the playground will be available, at first we will open it from eight to twenty o’clock. I initiated negotiations with the associations so that they could come to an agreement and from next season the playground, including reservations for those interested in sports, will be operated fully under their direction,” he said.
According to him, the construction modifications made will allow artificial lighting to be installed next year, which would extend the time of sports into the evening in the spring and autumn, inclusive.
“In the spring, on the area near the wall, we open a workout area with lockers where visitors can lock their things. The exercise elements of this outdoor gym will also be adapted for seniors,” the councilor pointed out.
According to him, the total costs for the creation of the sports field under Petřín are around four million crowns and are covered from the budget of the city district.
