Jetten made: nobody in the cold in the Netherlands this winter
The cabinet is currently consulting with energy companies about ways to prevent disconnections. According to Jetten, it would be extra wry if people were left without gas and electricity due to payment problems, ‘while we know that a good structural solution will be available from 2023’.
Pain soothes
On Budget Day, the cabinet will use billions to ease the pain of the high prices. In the meantime, a solution for the short term is being worked on: the cabinet will continue consultations with energy suppliers today. The energy companies also agree that closures are out of the question, says Jetten.
Earlier it leaked that the cabinet is working on a fund for people who cannot pay the energy bill. it is still being discussed who, for example, would come before decisions for support from the fund.
