Slovakia will be hit by storms and another downpour during the day. However, there is also a threat of tornadoes in the neighbors today
A cold front will continue across Europe today, bringing a wave of intense storms. In the course of the afternoon, very dangerous storms may develop, which may have a supercell structure and could even produce tornadoes. You can then return behind the cold front.
Yesterday’s weather began to influence the frontal system in Europe. It brought relatively significant precipitation to several states, which did not escape Slovakia either. The heaviest precipitation occurred in the Žilina region and in the west of the Prešov region, where 10 to 15 mm of precipitation fell during the downpour.
During the night, another extensive precipitation field began to move across our territory. Storms mainly occur in this precipitation field, which moves towards the east. It was stormy during the night, especially in western Slovakia.
However, the storms were not intense and during today we were hit by much stronger storms. An advancing cold front should bring them. Storms could even cause damage.
Storms will hit mainly in the afternoon
Today will bring a lot of clouds to our territory and precipitation may also occur. However, attention should be focused on this afternoon, when strong storms will hit not only our country, but also neighboring states. They will be brought by the cold, which will begin to move through Europe.
Thunderstorms await our territory in the afternoon. A more significant field of precipitation should begin to advance from the northwest. Individual storm cells were nested within this rainfall.
Storms are threatening in several places in our territory today, but they should primarily be expected in the northern half of Slovakia. Storms will be accompanied primarily by heavy downpours, no cores of individual storm cells or hail are ruled out. Thunderstorms should be expected until the evening hours.
Much more intense storms await our neighbors
Strong storms are expected today mainly in the southern sector of the cold front and affect mainly the states located southwest of us. Before today’s storms, the weather service Estofex also issued a warning.
today’s Estofex forecast
In the area from southern Austria, through Slovenia, Croatia, western Hungary to northern Serbia, there will be an area of potentially strong storms.
There will be very favorable conditions in this area that can form several super targets. These will subsequently bring hail and can even produce a tornado.
The cold front that will continue across Europe today will not only bring more intense storms, but will also have an impact in the following days. Very cold air will flow towards us from the northwest, which will bring extremely cold days. More on developments in the coming days you can find it HERE.
