Until October 16, the public will be able to discover the 320 paintings produced by recognized artists. “I really wanted to give pastel its letters of nobility. The international biennale rises in quality from year to year. There are lots of different worlds,” says the founder of the event, Michelle Caussin Bellon.
A follower of the pastel technique, she presents herself as a versatile and passionate artist. Painter, photographer and designer, she wanted to restore the art of pastel thanks to the creation of her international biennial. An exhibition that brings together several artists, some of whom are internationally renowned.

“Pastel is an art that has not always been appreciated. Before creating the biennale, Russia launched a worldwide call for applications. They wanted pastel artists for the inauguration of the tercentenary of Saint Petersburg,” she says. Supported by her friends, the painter applies and finds herself among the 4 French finalists.
Despite the competition, all the participants notice the same thing: this art is not sufficiently recognized in their respective countries. From this common thought were born several associative projects around pastel… including his own, the International Biennial, created 18 years ago. After being unveiled in Sanary or Cassis, the international pastel biennial returns for the eighth time to Lyon. “We find contemporary, more modern and realism.
Here you even have a copy of the Marquise de Pompadour made in pastel, the original is on display at the Louvre, “she says, alongside her friend and pastellist Michele Love. The public will be able to take advantage of a workshop in the afternoon to learn about pastel, led by the founder. The opportunity to learn a new technique and share the benefits of this art… at its fair value!
