Vienna, Paris and Shanghai spend the night lights- Corriere.it
Throughout Austria blackouts starting at 10pm, the Eiffel Tower spent “as a symbolic gesture”. And the Chinese megalopolis remains in the dark for two days a week
A cause of the energy crisis even the “Ville lumière” will be less illuminated. Paris has decided to anticipate the turning off of the lights of the Eiffel Tower to encourage everyone to saving electricity. But the boom in bills is fading all over the planet – and even more drastically – the lights of the cities, from the capitals to the center of the province. If the price of gas continues to skyrocket (despite the fact that the Amsterdam market has reversed the trend today) the stars risk being the prevailing glow of winter nights.
Who most of all has faced the question head on is Austria: the government intends to enact a countrywide public lighting blackout starting at 10pm. Public buildings, advertising hoardings, signs and shop windows and shopping malls; only street lighting and little else will survive the squeeze. Affected by the cut in consumption, including national ones – like the Hofburg in Vienna – and the warming “mushrooms” of the many public places in the capital.
Luci also spends on one of the most universally known symbols, the Eiffel Tower of Paris: starting tomorrow, Tuesday, the outline of the monument it will no longer be visible from 11.45 pm rather than as usually happens at one in the morning. “It is a symbolic gesture – announced Françoise Martin, president of the company that manages the tower – to encourage all citizens to save energy ». After all, the night lighting barely represents 4% of the costs a balance sheet of the company.
It is worth noting that the energy crisis it does not only affect the West on which Moscow has declared war economic through cutting gas supplies. For two days a week – Monday and Tuesday – Shanghai has also decided to remain in the dark at night. The Chinese megalopolis (26 million inhabitants) decreed the shutdown of signs, skyscrapers, and part of the street lighting. In this case, however, the decision is not dictated by energy crisis strictly speaking but also from prolonged drought and rising temperatures which put a strain on the tightness of the electricity grid of the whole region.
Also in Italyfinally, we begin to talk about forms of “austerity” for public lighting. The theme is on the table in Milannight city par excellence, but also in provincial towns of Veneto and Marche ask to cut electricity consumption to end up with bad budgets due to bills
