Ukraine and Russia are interested in establishing a protective zone around the ZNPP
Ukraine and Russia are interested in the proposal of the Agency for Atomic Energy (IAEA) to create a protective zone around the Zaporozhye power plant, the head of the agency, Rafael Grossi, said on Monday.
We remind you that the Zaporizhzhya NPP was seized by troops in March and has recently been repeatedly subjected to shelling attacks, in which Russia and Ukraine accuse another friend. As a result of the shelling, the suspicions of the proximity of six nuclear explosions were damaged, and the threat of a nuclear catastrophe, including due to exceeding the limits of power transmission, the consequences for cooling the fuel in the reactors.
Grossi imports both the constant consumption of shelling and the more likely officially “protected nuclear safety zone” around the station.
“I saw signs that they are interested in this agreement,” he said at a press conference, answering a question about the progress of talks with Russia and Ukraine about the presence. “I see (the interest) of the parties that interact with us, who ask questions, many questions.”
According to Grossi, issues such as the radius of the zone and the role of IAEA staff are considered. Two IAEA staff members are currently at the station.
When asked if his energy consumption included the consumption of all work equipment or personnel, Grossi said energy consumption was included in the proposal as a condition.
“It (the proposal) includes this. It can manifest itself in other things as well,” said that “no physical actions are shown or imply targeting nuclear power plants.”
