Russia – Telephone conversation of the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin – Communiqué (Elysee Palace, 11.09.22)
On Sunday, September 11, 2022, the President of the Republic had a telephone conversation with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
During this conversation, he condemned the continuation of state security in Ukraine and recalled his demands for their prompt consumption, the start of negotiations and the restoration of the sovereignty and territorial coverage of Ukraine.
Following on from the previous President, the President exchanged views with Zelensky, the Director General of the IAEA and President Putin, the Republic also raised the issue of the safety of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant. He recalled that the Russian occupation began to cause risks that are dangerous today for the Zaporozhye NPP. Russian troops are characterized by heavy and light use and compliance with the IAEA on the external safety of nuclear power plants.
The President of the Republic also made the necessary clarifications to his Russian colleague on issues of global food security. He recalled that European standards do not take into account agricultural products and products necessary for agricultural production. He drew attention to the fact that partner payments, especially in Russia, have a joint responsibility to ensure that the countries most at risk continue to receive significant food for them. He suggested to President Putin that he follow through with an agreement reached by Russia with Ukraine and Turkey under the control of the UN, implemented in such a way that exported grain goes to those who need it most. In this regard, he found a large number of cases within the framework of the FARM initiatives that France has undertaken in conjunction with similar initiatives of organizations.
The President of the Republic is insisting that the President contact Zelensky and the Director General of the IAEA and have another telephone conversation with Putin in the coming days to reach an agreement guaranteeing the safety of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
