Hannover 96 – Eintracht Braunschweig: Full house and great anticipation | NDR.de – Sports

It’s derby time in Lower Saxony – and after more than five years the traditional duel between Hannover 96 and Eintracht Braunschweig is taking place again in front of a full house.
The party also existed in the 2020/2021 season. But the Corona rules did not allow a full stadium. That will be different today (1 p.m., in the NDR Livecenter): The Arena am Maschsee is sold out. In order to be able to better separate the fan groups in the stadium, only 42,000 spectators are allowed instead of the possible 49,000.
Braunschweig coach Schiele: “A lot is possible”
The distribution of roles is clear, as is the importance of the party for both sides. “A derby is like a cup game,” stressed Eintracht coach Michael Schiele. And with a cup effect, the “lion” coach wins, after all he is an outsider with his team.
But the 4-2 win against 1. FC Nürnberg – the first win of the season – gave the promoted team self-confidence ahead of the derby. And the belief to be competitive in the second division. “A lot is possible,” Schiele assessed the chances on Thursday.
Hannover 96 last with four wins in a row
However, Hannover 96 goes into the encounter with an even broader chest. After the last four wins in a row, the team has settled into the top group. The restructuring under the new coach Stefan Leitl is already bearing fruit.
“Everyone is aware of the importance of this game.”

The 96 coach also offensively reminded on Thursday: “If we can build on the performances of the last few weeks, we will also win the game.” Leitl sees the big crowd as an incentive, but pointed out: “Nevertheless, it’s about to stay with us of all emotions, to focus on our strengths and not to overdo it.”
The security situation has been relatively relaxed so far
The security forces hope that the fans will also steer their emotions in the right direction. Although there was a denigrating banner towards Braunschweig at the away game of the 96ers, the situation is more relaxed than in the previous derby. “So far, as far as I know, it looks very peaceful and I hope it stays that way,” said Leitl.
7,000 seats must remain empty for safety reasons. The security authorities deliberately do not reveal another number: how many police officers will be deployed in Hanover and the surrounding area to separate the two fan camps from each other. “We plan everything in terms of strength,” said the spokesman for the Hanover police department of the “Braunschweiger Zeitung”.
Coach friendship “rests on Saturday”
It is very unlikely that the two coaches clashed. Leitl and Schiele completed their training as football teachers together in 2017 – and at that time also formed a car pool from the training location Hennef in their southern German homeland. “A friendship developed between us, but it will rest on Saturday,” said Leitl.
Possible lineups:
Hannover 96: Zieler – Neumann, Börner, Krajnc – Muroya, Köhn – Leopold, F. Kunze – Nielsen – Tresoldi, Beier
Eintracht Braunschweig: Fejzic – de Medina, Behrendt, Benkovic – Marx, Krausse, Nikolaou, Donkor – Pherai – Ujah, merchant
