There is no top performer at the school, the Hytych track in Brno is the best in the world in terms of kilometers
He started cycling six years ago in Favorit Brno, but even then he was looking for his idols. “The first year in preparation, we met sprinters somewhere in training and admired them. I have always taken sprints as a goal. It is a different route than road cycling. If I succeed, there will be more money in it, but if a person is talented on the track, it is difficult to make it on the road,” said the racer from Brno’s Dukla.

Last year he looked around for big events, but this year he has already shown his potential. In July, he won the European Junior Championship in Anadia, Portugal, and at the end of August, he also won the rainbow jersey for the world champion in Tel Aviv, Israel, in a fixed kilometer. “Last year, I was more focused on results and a certain time, and maybe I raced under unnecessary stress. Now it paid off for me to just focus on doing my best on the day, I also did my best in preparation. I didn’t have a specific result in mind that I wanted to achieve, and it paid off,” he described the recipe for success.
Coach Zdeňko Noska’s protege is also improving in the individual sprint and keirin, but he is most suited to four timed circuits. “I’m not quite the starting type, I can rather ride at a high pace for two or three laps, so I’m probably good for a kilometer,” he mused.
He has an Olympic dream in his head, in six years he will host a holiday under the five rings of Los Angeles, but the fixed kilometer is not an Olympic discipline. “I want to improve rather than have one goal, although participating in Los Angeles would be wonderful and it’s a great goal,” Hytych said. “It would be ideal to qualify there through the team sprint, thanks to which two people will get to the games in both the sprint and the keirin,” he explained.
GRADUATION NEXT YEAR
Next year, he will have his matriculation exam at the Viennese grammar school and also the university entrance exams. “I don’t know where yet, more like something technical, or sportswear. I’m undecided at all, but I won’t major in natural sciences,” he smirked.
In order to handle sports work, he has adapted his studies. “I have certain concessions at school. Some hours I have to be there regularly, others not. I catch the middle classes from ten to maybe one when we have morning or afternoon training. When we’re not training, I’m at school all day,” he noted.

The combination of studies and the career of a cyclist is more demanding, but he manages it. “I’m not quite a single player, I also have to rest, I can’t come home from training and immediately open the textbook, sometimes I’m tired from two-phase training. I don’t give one hundred percent to the school, but definitely enough for it, he passed with ease and in some way thought about working hours,” added Hytych.
