VLADIVOSTOK, September 7, FederalPress. As part of the third day of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, a session of the international project ThinkArctic “The Eastern Dimension of International Cooperation in the Arctic” was held. Scientists, officials and representatives of the countries of Eastern cooperation: Europe and gathered to discuss joint work in the Arctic observation zone, the correspondent of “FederalPress” reports.
In the fall of 2022, there were almost no imports left, that the Arctic is a closed region where politics did not meet. The region is heavily militarized, and it is no longer possible to pretend that it is developing separately from the political situation. The Arctic Council has undergone changes: including bullying against Russia and the consequences of his country. Today, on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum, experts discussed the possibility of continuing a broad dialogue about the Arctic.
“Today, the Arctic plays an important role in control and economy. Our country has identified a theme for the sustainable development of the region as a cross-cutting theme: a balance is needed between the economy, ecology and the social sphere. Russia will continue the consistent course of development of the Arctic,” Nikolai Korchunov said at the opening of the session on behalf of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
He added that now it is becoming a significant contribution to the development of the Arctic from the Asia-Pacific countries. They show a commitment to a constructive approach and interaction within the ministry. It is important to comply with the requirements of the Russian Foreign Ministry, to address global issues: the consequences of global warming, degradation of permafrost and the creation of biodiversity. In addition, Nikolai Korchunov mentioned the need to develop the Northern Sea Route.
“The highway has great potential for movement from the US and Asia. The development of the NSR makes the system of maritime transportation sustainable,” the ambassador emphasized.
Glenn Diesen, Professor of the Department of Business, History and Social Sciences at the University of Southeast Norway, raised the topic of the security of the Arctic region at the session.
“Relations of application with Russia in the last eight years of properties to Norway and the Arctic. These relations have shaken, the security system of Europe has shaken. We see instances in the transport network and we notice that the Russian Federation is now looking towards the East, and this threat is also found in the Arctic. But Norway wants a long relationship with Russia, we will not worsen these relations,” Glenn Diesen said at the session.
