Oleg Matytsin: “We are doing everything possible for Russia to become a participant in the 2024 Olympics. Without Russia, the Games practically lose their meaning” – Athletics
The Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin spoke about the likelihood of participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
– What are our chances to take part in the next 2024 Olympics in Paris?
– In short, everything is possible for Russia to become an active participant in the Paris Olympics. I have already said that we are actively cooperating with the emergence of federations through our all-Russian sports federations. We are working to discover channels, capturing that without Russia, the Olympic Games practically lose their meaning.
“At the moment we don’t want to go there at all?”
– Now it is difficult to say, because the international federations decide on admission to the qualifying competitions for the Olympics. If someone is not allowed to reach them, then it will be very difficult to resolve issues about the participants in the Olympic Games.
I hope the triumph of the events of Olympism. We did not give reasons to violate the Olympic principles. I hope the other side will have the same position.
– When will there be a time cutoff, after which we will catch that our athletes will or will not participate in the 2024 Olympics?
– For most sports, this is the next calendar year, 2023. But this is within the competence of the congresses or conferences of each of the international federations as the highest governing bodies of the federations. With rare exceptions, such decisions are made by the executive committees of the federations. Matytsin said.
