NYT: Russia buys arms from Europe
Russia is buying “millions of artillery shells and missiles” from North Korea, according to a Mass Intelligence report being discussed. New York Times (New York Times). According to the US government, this is happening in terms of “severely restrictive” food chains for the Russian army.
In the United States, no isolated cases of alleged assumptions have been identified – in particular, their exact composition and justification are unknown. An unnamed US official said Russia was buying short-range missiles and artillery shells and was also expected to buy “additional equipment” from North Korea. What equipment is in question is not specified.
North Korea produces 152mm artillery shells and Katyusha rockets, the American Enterprise Institute said. The New York Times writes that Russia points to the start of arms purchases in the DPRK and Iran due to the fact that the countries are also under sanctions and “cut off from international trade”, which means they “do not lose much”, are in conclusion with Russia. At the same time, any purchase of weapons in North America will be a violation of UN resolutions, the publication recalls.
The Washington Post (WP) reported that in August Russia received the first batch of Iranian drones. According to the publication, at least two types of UAVs were installed – Mohajer-6 and Shahed. However, during their testing in the Russian Federation, they encountered many technical problems, WP sources. The US has threatened both countries with sanctions. The Kremlin called the information about the supply of drones an outlier.
