Scientists from all over the world are heading to Brno. A congress on electron microscopes started there — ČT24 — Czech Television
“The aim of the event is to bring together important academic scientists, researchers, students and representatives of the commercial sphere to exchange and share experiences and research results on all aspects of microscopy,” said event coordinator Vladislav Krzyžánek from the Institute of Instrumentation of the Academy of Sciences.
Krzyžánek, who is also the chairman of the Czechoslovak Microscopic Society, points to the unique “microscopic ecosystem” of Brno. “No other European city hosts so many companies, scientific institutes and universities focused on electron microscopy,” he emphasized.
Among the invited scientists is, for example, the winner of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry, Richard Henderson. He participated in the development of cryo-electron microscopy.
The event is also partially intended for the public
A rich program awaits scientists, accompanied by an exhibition of the latest microscopic technology, as well as social events. “Conference participants will have a unique opportunity to visit companies that manufacture microscopic technology, and the people of Brno will have the opportunity to see an exhibition of microscopic images and participate in their evaluation,” explained Jana Nebesářová, a member of the preparatory committee.
The last major conference focused on electron microscopy was held in Brno in 2000. “That’s why it’s great that, after more than 20 years, we can show foreign colleagues how much progress the Brno microscopic ecosystem has made,” said the electron microscopy expert and vice-chair of the Academy’s Academic Council sciences Ilona Müllerová.
