Migration – Frankfurt am Main – 18 young people from immigrant families receive a scholarship – politics
Dresden (dpa/sn) – 18 young people with an immigrant background living in Saxony receive an educational grant from the Start Foundation. The ten girls and eight boys come from 15 different countries and are among the approximately 190 scholarship holders selected this year nationwide, as the foundation announced on Sunday in Dresden. In the course of the scholarship program, which is intended to promote integration and provide opportunities for academic education, there were around 1,200 applications nationwide.
Minister of Education Christian Piwarz (CDU) said that the selected young people enriched society with their experiences and ideas. This also benefits Saxony.
So far, 171 young people in the Free State and over 3,500 throughout Germany have received an educational grant from the foundation. The program offers workshops, excursions and a digital campus and accompanies young people on their way to graduation. At the end of the three-year program there is a non-profit project that the scholarship holders develop and implement themselves. In addition, they receive 1,000 euros each year.
“Over the years, our young people have become part of a special community that makes a difference in our society,” said Start Managing Director Farid Bidardel. The foundation is currently developing a new digital platform so that even more girls and boys can benefit from the program. According to Bidardel, they know best what young people with an immigrant background need.
