From September, the 50+ group will start again at Szent László parish in Debrecen | Hungarian Courier
“The measure of youth is not age, but the state of mind and soul:
the power of will and imagination, the intensity of emotions,
the victory of fun and adventure over laziness.”
(Albert Schweitzer)
Our group started with the title 50+ in November 2021 at the Szent László Parish in Debrecen, organized by the Hospital Chaplain Service of the Diocese of Debrecen-Nyíregyháza and the staff of the Parish. We continue to cordially invite and welcome all those interested in the elderly who would like to join our developing community. The members of the group meet on a weekly basis in the parish II. in the hall of János Pál. We start the sessions with Bible reading and a short reflection, and then we deal with a pre-arranged topic. We will continue working together from September.
A kind of life path evaluation is important at every stage of life, including with the onset of adulthood. It is worth looking back at what has happened so far and what is still ahead.
The literature mentions successful or healthy aging in many cases, one of the key criteria of which is the insight and acceptance that we can no longer change everything.
In adapting to the physical, mental, and psychological changes that occur in adulthood, lifestyle plays a major role as a supporting and helping factor in adaptation. It is important to know that it is possible to prepare for old age.
In the preparation and experience of old age, the individual’s genetic endowments, environmental and health conditions, personality and the possibilities of accessing the conditions that serve his personal health are also important.
Some of these do not have a direct impact on the individual, we can say that they are innate or external qualities, however
the way of life and the adaptive attitude to changes are factors that we ourselves can influence and shape.
When we talk about health, we should not only think about our physical well-being, because spiritual factors play at least as important a role in how we feel!
To maintain the individual’s goals, customizable, open and curious attitude towards human communities and values.
It is important not to be withdrawn, as one of the keys to a long life is to show interest and curiosity towards the world.
Social relationships are an important touchstone and reference point, because they are able to startle and push the individual through his personal concerns and inhibitions. Their role is extremely important, because in the group the individual can meet people who have experienced similar difficulties, losses, and life situations. The group has a supporting force.
This lies in the fact that in a community, the qualities that we like in ourselves and in others are strengthened much more, so that by experiencing the positive, we can look at ourselves and others with hope.
The hope that we are able to see in others returns to us after a while.
Getting started, starting something new, maybe this can be the most difficult, when it is easy to keep the goal in mind. During the period of change, belonging to a support group or community can also motivate us, whose members are in the same life situation and are going through a similar change.
So don’t be afraid to start, to join a community that we can shape and shape! The group is open and can be visited without any obligation.
Our plans include joint trips, theater visits, senior gymnastics, walks, and holiday get-togethers. We shape the program together, we welcome all enthusiastic and good ideas!
