Laura Lindemann and her team were able to celebrate their premiere. Triathlon Potsdam became German women’s champion for the first time after winning the day in Hanover in 1:06:19 hours. Last year’s champion TV Buschhütten, who was level on points before the race, only came in as a neuter.

Local heroes help TV Buschhütten win the league title
But the TV Buschhütten team was able to cheer for the men – also thanks to the two local heroes in the team. Olympic starters Jonas Schomburg (Waspo Hannover) and Justus Nieschlag (Lehrter SV) bagged the league title with the TV team. Rival and defending champion Team Saar, in Hanover nur Neun was dethroned by former series champion Buschhütten after just one year as champion.

With the new format, two couples per team had to start together and be handed over to the second couple after the mini-triathlon (0.4-11-2.5 km). Schomburg had already taken the lead in the first pair. In the second duo, Nieschlag and his partner Maximilian Sperl climbed out of the Maschsee with a large lead. They didn’t let anything burn on the bike anymore. Nieschlag, who started despite having problems with his Achilles tendon, was able to stop. Only three of the four men in a team had to complete the course. Sperl ran home the day’s win after 57:27 minutes, ahead of Team Süßen (59:01).

“It’s a really new format. Super short, super hard and super exciting. It’s a win for the spectators,” says Nieschlag, who, despite his resignation, was of course still part of the winning quartet and was able to celebrate at the award ceremony and triathon night in the lido. For Schomburg, who ended his first year in Buschhütten with a German title, he found it “still unfamiliar. But we implemented it tactically well. It was great to start at home and to see a lot of familiar faces,” he said.

Hanover’s former Ironman amateur world champion Christian Haupt masterfully
A Hanoverian was able to celebrate the day before. Over the Olympic distance (1.5 – 40 – 10 km) the German titles are at stake in all age groups. Hanover’s former Ironman amateur world champion Christian Haupt (Hannover 96) won the TM40 seniors in 1:52:25 hours. “I’ve actually never been German triathlon champion. I’ve made up for that now,” said Haupt.

However, he could only win his age group. In the overall standings, two from Plauen, Simon Müller (1:50:28) and Philipp Dressel-Pütz (1:50:45) from Lübeck, were clearly faster. “When I saw Simon in the entry lists, I knew it was going to be tough. He’s a defector. When he then climbed out of the Maschsee directly behind me after swimming, it was clear to me that it wouldn’t work today,” said Haupt. Although Haupt lost a minute and a half to the eventual overall winner, that was by far not enough when running. Haupt needs three minutes longer for the ten kilometers. “Eventually your body will give up. I’m still very satisfied,” said Haupt.
Second in the TM40 classification and sixth overall were 96 colleague Hauke Horstmann (1:53:09), Timo Warnecke (96/4. TM25/1:53:53) and Nils Reckemeiter (96/5. TM25/ 1: 1:55:44) finished seventh and tenth.
In the women’s race, Lena Brunkhorst (96) finished third after 2:03:50 hours and was runner-up in the TW35 class. Champion Hannah Arlon (LG Emsdetten) is already 2:08 minutes away.
