It has been revealed where the pavement renovations will continue in Debrecen
Viktor Papp, leader of the Fidesz-KDNP faction of the Debrecen General Assembly and local government representative György Korbeák, reports on September 2 in the framework of a press conference about what is already taking place on Cívis Street.
As Viktor Papp said, for the municipality of Debrecen – as in the previous years’ budget – the development of the city’s transport infrastructure is a priority target area in this year’s budget as well. In recent years, road renovations, road constructions, sidewalk constructions, sidewalk renovations, bicycle path constructions, large-surface asphaltings have taken place in countless places – and such things are still taking place today. Overall, the city of Debrecen has hundreds of kilometers of sidewalks, the vast majority of which are between 30 and 50 years old. Of course, during this time, these pavement sections became old, transverse cracks formed on them, and they sank. Since the safety of pedestrian traffic is very important to the city government, it is of particular importance that the condition of the sidewalks is as good as possible.
Viktor Papp said that the representative of the Fidesz-KDNP faction of the Debrecen General Assembly maintains active contact with the people of Debrecen living in the constituency, and they conduct a constant dialogue. As a result of this, the improvements that the residents interpret as requests or suggestions to the representatives are tried to be included in the budget every year, if possible.
This year, the city will carry out pavement renovation works at approximately 60 locations, worth HUF 159 million gross. Without claiming to be exhaustive: on Cívis utca, Hortobágy utca, Lázár utca, Szabó Lőrinc utca, Karinthy Frigyes utca, Szent Anna utca, Derék utca, Szoboszlói út.
This also shows: it is extremely important for the city’s leaders that all areas of Debrecen can develop, be it the gardens, housing estates or the city center, as the interests of all citizens of Debrecen are important – the municipality underlined in its announcement.
– The most important goal of the sidewalk renovation program is to improve the safety of pedestrian traffic in Debrecen and to make our smaller environment more comfortable and beautiful – emphasized Viktor Papp.
The individual local government representative of the district, György Korbeák, expressed his joy in connection with the fact that the pavement repair work started in 2019 on Jerikó Street was carried out in two phases, while last year – in consultation with the residents of the area – this investment reached Cívis Street No. 8 until home. This year, the sidewalk between Cívis utca 8 and 16 – all the way to the post office – will be completely renewed, as well as the section of the bicycle path next to it. This investment alone is HUF 33 million. It will take 2-3 weeks to complete the works that began on Cívis Street on August 30. György Korbeák thanked the people living in the area for their patience with the work up to now and the work to be done now, and thanked the city administration for the implementation of the investment.
