the FCN apologizes after a mocking message to the memory of Brice Taton
A tag mocking the memory of Brice Taton, a Toulouse supporter who died in 2009 after being lynched by supporters of Partizan Belgrade, was seen this Sunday in the bays of Beaujoire on the sidelines of Nantes-Toulouse. The Canary Club apologized for this “odious message”.
Thirteen years after his death, the name of Brice Taton is back in the news for very sad reasons. A message mocking the fire Toulouse supporter was found this Sunday in the toilets of the visitor parking lot during the meeting between Nantes and Toulouse (3-1). On the drawing, we see a man falling from the stairs and the following words: “Attention Brice!”.
On September 17, 2009, a few hours before a Europa League match between Partizan Belgrade and Toulouse, Brice Taton was attacked in a bar in the company of a dozen Violets supporters by Serbian fans. The 28-year-old man, beaten, had been thrown at the foot of the stairs and fell four meters. Placed in a coma, he lost his life twelve days later.
FC Nantes “will make every effort to find the author of this odious message”
“The Club is appalled by the discovery of such a message at the Beaujoire stadium. It is unacceptable to see this in a stadium or elsewhere,” reacted the TFC on Twitter later in the afternoon. To which FC Nantes responded, claiming to “condemn such actions”. The Nantes club “wants to support the family and loved ones of Brice Taton and will do everything possible to find the author of this odious message”, he says.
Since this disappearance, the east corner of the Toulouse Stadium has been renamed in his name. Ten years after the death of the young supporter, in 2019, one of his assassins was shot twice in the head in Belgrade. Fourteen Serbian hooligans had been sentenced to prison terms.
