Amsterdam City Swim raises more than 1.1 million euros for research into ALS
In addition to the swimmers, more than a thousand spectators, sixty patients and three hundred volunteers were also present. The participants swam a 2.1 kilometer course, from Keizersgracht to Marineterrein. Juniors (10-15 years) started at the Maritime Museum and a route of 700 meters.
A dozen ALS patients also swam along—may find themselves in a boat or canoe pulled by their loved ones. Several well-known Dutch people could also be found in the canals. Beau van Erven Dorens, Thomas Acda and René Froger, among others, took part in the event.
Afterwards, a check with the collected amount was handed over to Gorrit-Jan Blonk AS Netherlands. “After two beach years in which we can’t start ourselves for the people who need it so much, the time has finally come. With so many people, so much energy and so many smiles. And of course her and a tear. The result is this unique yield to solve the disease ALS anywhere in the world.” There is no curative treatment for ALS.
