Introduction days for new students in Amsterdam started
Thousands of new students are gathering on campus this week, as the introduction days of the Vrije Universiteit started again yesterday. This week the new students will get to know each other, the city of Amsterdam and the university. It is estimated that there will be four percent more bachelor’s students from last year in the UvA and VU study this year. That reports AT5.
The new students were received yesterday with a nice welcome word with connections, followed by the introduction to their mentor groups. There was also an information market with all kinds of stalls from student associations and sports associations.
In rooms
A large part of the new students has the plan to live in the city of Amsterdam. It’s just not easy to find a room. “I would prefer to have rooms, but then the prices really have to come down,” says a student.
Things are different for international students. The ASVA Student Union warned international students earlier this year to only come to Amsterdam if they already had a real room. A student from India succeeded: “I am glad that I was able to arrange a room through the VU.”
Student grants
Starting next year, they will receive a student grant again. A supplementary scholarship is a maximum of 419 euros, but students only receive this if their parents total less than 34,600 euros per year. You will not receive an additional grant if your parents earn more than 53,900 euros per year. These students have to make do with the basic grant of 255 euros.
The introduction week of the UvA students is planned for next week.
