Russia acquires its own analogue of Wikipedia
In Russia, a domestic analogue of “Wikipedia”, called “Runiversalis”, has been released. According to Anton Gorelkin, Deputy Head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, the project will comply with the requirements of Russian legislation, the creators will avoid propaganda and harmful consumption, Khabarovsk Krai Today news agency reports with reference to RIA Novosti.
– What we talked about so long ago has finally happened: the Runet has its own universal encyclopedia, which runs on a wiki engine, but does not depend on the policy enforced by the Wikimedia Foundation, – says Anton Gorelkin. – The Encyclopedia is hosted on Russian servers and declares a respectful attitude towards the establishment of the legislation of the Russian Federation and the detection of diseases.
The “Runiversalis” contains about 8.7 thousand articles. At the same time, at the moment, the resource where the new information project is based is not working, as the agency’s correspondent was personally convinced of. Presumably, the site went down due to heavy load.
We remind you that at the request of Roskomnadzor, search engines inform Internet users about violations of the security requirements of the Russian Federation. In particular, now in the feed, after links to popular resources of Telegram and TikTok, a postscript appeared: “RKN: the site implements the law of the Russian Federation.”
According to Roskomnadzor, the placement of IT companies does not comply with the procedure for distributing prohibited information and the main obligations established by federal law No. 236-FZ “On the activities of foreign persons on the Internet in the territory of the Russian Federation.”
