Prague Zoo welcomed this year’s millionth visitor and is looking forward to a record year
This year’s millionth visitor passed through the gates of the Prague Zoo on Sunday afternoon – more precisely, a family with two children. She received special gifts and a memorial certificate for her unique ranking. The last time Prague Zoo welcomed a million people was in 2019, i.e. before the period of closures caused by the covid-19 pandemic.
“It’s a really big surprise for us. When the rain stopped after noon, we decided to go to the zoo at the end of the day after all, our welcome was all the more unexpected.” says the father of a family from Úval, which regularly visits the Prague Zoo. “We really like the grounds of the Children’s Zoo, but most of all we like the penguins, sea lions and also the gharials,” she adds, while daughters especially enjoy large stuffed animals, they are part of the gifts.
The director of the Prague Zoo is also happy about the millionth visitor: “This year, the millionth visitor came on approximately the same days as before the covid pandemic. There is also a chance to break the visitor record from 2019,” says Miroslav Bobek, adding that in autumn the new gorilla pavilion – the Dja Reserve – will become a major attraction for visitors.
