Toulouse. The demolition of the Boulevard Carnot building reveals the remains of a cemetery
Of the building that stood at 67 boulevard Lazare-Carnot, there is not much left. The pillar of a wall and the vestige of a door, at most. Until October 30, you could still franchise it to admire the scale models of planes and ships, acquire a model of the Titanic, or get advice from Claude Carrière. The seller of the Ideal Models brand, created by his father in 1970, has been running the store since 1986. His retirement was precipitated by the plan to demolish the walls that housed him, with a view to building new offices. and a restaurant.
The remains of a cemetery
Work began in February, under the leadership of the Taillandier agency, a Toulouse architecture firm. After work to reinforce the walls of the adjacent buildings, the destruction began. It was the scene of an impressive discovery. “During the demolition, we uncovered the bones of around fifty bodies, testifies Pierre-Louis Taillandier, founder of the firm. It was an old cemetery”. This find wasn’t exactly a surprise. “There is an archaeological map of the city, explains the architect. We suspected that remains were there”. The construction site has been suspended until further notice to leave room for archaeological excavations. These should soon reveal some of the history that this site contains.
