On Facebook, one of the users shared a photo of a man who had a suitcase full of stolen books. He should have taken these from a bookstore in the Lipany district of Prague. He lost some of the books in his haste to leave. “So, if you missed these books, please correct me or the members of the Lipanské Okrašlováních spolka, who are administrators of the bookshop. But be careful when contacting them, not all members of the association would prefer a verbal method of communication in your case,” the author of the post wrote to him.
“A message to an avid reader driving a Dacia Duster 5SU-3710: Dear Sir. On 9/8/2022, in the early evening hours, you borrowed some books from our bookstore. After a hasty departure, you forgot to close the trunk of your car and 8 books accidentally fell out. ” This is how Jan Kolář’s post on Facebook begins, aimed at book thieves in the Lipany district of Prague.
Be careful when contacting, not everyone prefers verbal communication
“So, if you missed these books, please correct me or the members of the Lipanské Okrašlování spolka, who are the administrators of the bookshop. But be careful when contacting them, not all members of the association would prefer a verbal method of communication in your case. When you return the borrowed books, please return them to all the booths you visited on Tuesday” Kolář adds, adding a photo of the alleged thief and the trunk of his car, stuffed to the roof with books.
The post received many shares and a number of comments condemning the activity of the thief. According to one user, the man was supposed to sell stolen books on Saturday at the bazaar in Hloubětín. Other users point out that the author of the post may have violated the Personal Data Protection Act. It is also unclear whether the book thief broke any law when there is no set limit on how many books someone can take from the bookstore.
