Car thefts: Belgium, one of the worst countries…
According to one study led by the English insurer Confused.com, the Belgium looks very bad student in Europe with regard to car theft. According to the figures, there are indeed 145 flights per 100,000 people per year on our territory. Belgium thus ranks ninth place on this matter. For this ranking, confused.com designated all declarations of theft in all countries of the old continent.
The Belgium is good badly off indeed, car with 145 flights per 100,000 inhabitants per yearour country has a 104% higher rate than Germany (71 flights per 100,000 people).

Worse than Belgium
That said, other countries are much worse than us. Italy in this case has the highest theft rate with an average of 276 volumes per 100,000 inhabitants every year. This figure is astronomical, as it is 80% higher than that of the UK (153 flights/100,000 people) and even 5% higher than that of the France (261 volumes/100,000).
The Czech Republic clearly not better off with 274 volumes per 100,000 inhabitants and it therefore ranks second in the ranking of Confused.com. Curiously – the more disciplined Nordics are referred to – the Sweden figure at the third place in this ranking with 266 flights/100,000 inhabitants. Clearly an isolated Nordic case, Sweden recorded a rate 91% higher than that of Finland (139) and 138% higher than that of Norway (112).
Fr fourth positionthe France advances 261 car thefts per 100,000 people, which seems huge, especially in Switzerland (- 205%, or 85 thefts/100,000 inhabitants). The Greece then ranks as the fifth least safe country for car theft, with 255 per 100,000 inhabitants and per year, while the Greek population is 3% lower than that of Belgium.
France in bad shape
If we observe the daily figuresit’s here France who is worse off 474 theft declarations per day. If we add it up, this represents 20 flights per hour and 3 per minute… As you can imagine, Italy is not far behind France, followed by the United Kingdom and Germany.
But what is the safest country ? Well, that’s the Denmark where there are “only” five car thefts per 100,000 inhabitants per year. This is therefore 145% less than in Belgium. After Denmark, it is the Romania which aligns the second lowest rate (14 flights) then the Liechtenstein (22) and the Croatia (22).

Among the tips and measures that are easy to implement, it should be noted glass etching (with the chassis number, which will force thieves to replace all the windows) and, when parking, to leave a gear engaged (with a manual gearbox of course) and the wheels facing the pavement to make it more difficult for thieves to operate.
