The Elettrica family recharges itself with a trip to Vienna
The Electric Family (after the electric girl) on a trip to Vienna: Paolo, with his wife and three children, went to Vienna with his Citroen e-C4. Do you want to tell your holidays to EV? Write to [email protected]

“AWe decided to spend our holidays by going to visit Vienna, leaving from Rovigo… Together with our 3 children with our ë-C4. On paper, not exactly the car indicated for space and autonomy for long journeys. But, fgardens of our past experiences (Lerici, Turin, …) we did not lose heart. The report of the trip (and others) can also be found on the Instagram profile @electric_family. We want to show that traveling with children (three, 13, 10 and 10 years old) in electric is possible, even without a supercar“
The Elettrica family first of all equipped itself with “keys”
“As always, to travel the journey I started from ABRP app, which always gives rather precise indications, if properly configured. It quickly transpired that a direct trip to Vienna would be a backbreaking undertaking and we opted for an intermediate break: The locality is mountain Turrache Höhe, we were not disappointed … First step: get the “keys”Of the main providers, to be sure that recharging can be managed even in the event of a network failure or blackout app. In my opinion with these of EvWay, BeCharge and EnelX in Italy you have almost total coverage (I don’t want other providers). Also, an essential point for our trip is that all three have partnerships with foreign supplier. In particular, planning a number of km between 1,400 and 1,600 (we were also thinking of taking a ride in Bratislava) I calculated that I had to recharge from 250 to 300 kW“.
First stop at the Ionity of Portogruaro, but without bathrooms or shelters in the shade
“For this reason I bought a monthly subscription Enel X Flat Large from 145kWh (a € 45) it’s a BeCharge BeRegular from 100kWh a € 38. And I started looking for the Fast columns supported on the journey from the respective apps. I admit we thought we were covering Fast coverage a little bit more, mostly central area of Austria. I do note however that, this way I would have made it up to 1,600 km paying just over € 80, unthinkable these days for any heat engine. We left on Sunday to encounter little traffic and indeed it was. As a first stop for charging we stopped at Ionity of Portogruaro, just off the highway, well stocked with 6 stations behind a petrol station. But unfortunately without bathrooms, vending machines or shaded places: certainly aspects to improve. Then we stopped off the motorway in Tolmezzo at one Enel X: at least there was some shade (and we spotted a beautiful one Polar Star 2 Danish)“.
The columns are missing, a hotel offers us an external socket
“Before the first destination we stopped for a quick charge at Villach, practically in the center (Lebensland Kärten charging station). We stopped for lunch in a local within walking distance. Eye that you can confuse it very well for a digital billboard, I will never get used to the fact that each column is different from the others !!! Villach is worth a quick visit, in this period all the streets are decorated for a summer festival. Continuing, the stop a Turracher Höhe it was as necessary as it was surprising. The hotel we went to (Sundance Mountain Resort) certainly has seen better times, but the value for money is great and has a pool and saunas. Furthermore, nas there are columns nearby (contrary to what the various apps indicate, which declares 2 available) have been so as to provide us an external socket to attach ourselves to. The place is otherwise splendid and very quiet (perhaps even a little too much), great for walking. Definitely recommended“.
Another car attacks and jumps the plant
“We resumed the journey to Vienna, having loaded up overnight about 75% (another car had stuck to the e he had blown up the plant 😂). Starting from a height of 1.700m we only had to make one stop at Leoben, in an area equipped with oven, car wash, kebab and oven with confectionery specialties. The stall is provided dthe 2 fast 150kW CCS, 1 CHAdeMO of 50kW and if you use the EnelX and BeCharge keys you shouldn’t miss it, there aren’t many others nearby. An almost full recharge here allowed us to get to Vienna without problems. And here is our goal. In the end, the journey was peaceful and serene and only at the gates of the city did we encounter some slowdowns due to construction works. The city is very beautiful, liveable, family-friendly (children pay almost nothing), you always feel safe. And the transport network (U-bahn, s-bahn, tram, bus) allows you to get anywhere“.
The electric family on the way back, between refills and McDonald’s
“Between Prater, Museums, Zoo, historical buildings, every type of tourist can be satisfied. And rarely do you get the impression that they want to rip you off (I still remember an ice cream in Florence for € 7, with prices not displayed). The food is not expensive, you just need to look around and you have the possibility to have lunch and dinner both at the typical stalls and in ethnic places. Since in thethe stay in the city we did not use the car, but the efficient transport network, just before returning I had to recharge at ÖAMTC Erding. In practice it is our ACI: you can find a bathroom, a restaurant and, if necessary, buy car equipment (child seats, bike racks,…). On the way back we did the same route: we stopped in Leoben and spent the night in Turracher Hohë (with the now famous recharge at the hotel… via cable). In the final stretch, given the almost all downhill route, we had to make only one stop (on the motorway !!!) at the BeCharge by Gonars Nord. Given the heat, we stopped at the nearby McDonald’s (we don’t love it… but in the heat it was providential). They stayed there 70 kW of subscriptions, we will use them at home calmly. The guys had a lot of fun (us too). And some of the most carefree moments were during the stops: we had the opportunity to talk and tell us about it“.
