President Maia Sandu conferred on Thursday, August 18, the “Order of Honor” to the Lithuanian ambassador to Chisinau Kestutis Kudzmanas, during a meeting on the occasion of the end of his mandate in the Republic of Moldova, the Presidency announces.
According to a statement published by the Presidential institution, the head of state emphasized that Lithuania remains an important partner for the Republic of Moldova and expressed her appreciation for Ambassador Kudzmanas’ contribution to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
“At the end of the meeting, as a sign of appreciation for the support of the European program of the Republic of Moldova, as well as for the help provided by the Lithuanian authorities in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and in the management of this year’s refugee crisis, President Maia Sandu conferred on the ambassador . Kestutis Kudzmanas “Order of Honor”, the statement said.
Gitanas Nauseda, the president of Lithuania, who was on an official visit to Chisinau at the beginning of May, declared during a joint press conference with the head of state, Maia Sandu, that Lithuania unequivocally supports the European Republic of Moldova.
Maia Sandu mentioned that the Republic of Moldova appreciates the solidarity of Lithuania and the support offered in several fields, including the European integration process.
“The Ukrainian tragedy found each of us. We are carefully monitoring the situation, and our analyzes show that the Republic of Moldova is not in danger, but we remain vigilant. The Moldovans did not stay away from the tragedy of their Ukrainian neighbors, they mobilized. More than 90 thousand Ukrainians still remain in the Republic of Moldova. Lithuania offered us 750 thousand euros to cover part of the expenses for refugees”, President Sandu noted.
At the same time, the president of the Republic of Moldova emphasized the friendly relations between the two states.
“The opening of the Lithuanian market would be beneficial for our country. The European path of Lithuania is a good example for the Republic of Moldova, but for that we need peace. We count on the support of the Vilnius Government, so that the Republic of Moldova obtains the status of a candidate country. Our choice is the European Union, because it is a peace project”, said Maia Sandu.
Gitanas Nauseda mentioned that the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova is encouraged by his country. “We understand that the Republic of Moldova was seriously affected by the war and we support its integrity. What is happening on the left side of the Dniester worries us, but you must not fall prey to the provocations. Lithuania supports Moldova’s European aspirations and is ready to share experience in the process of diversifying the energy market.“Nauseda concluded.
