Alderweireld’s return from his point of view: “Bringing the Champions League to Antwerp: that’s my dream”
The return of Toby Alderweireld to his home country, to ‘his’ Antwerp, is not just another step at the end of his career. Alderweireld still wants to foresee big things.
Toby Alderweireld has given his first major interview to the Flemish media since his arrival in Antwerp and elaborated on how he experiences it himself. “I’m actually very antisocial during the season”, it sounds in, among other things, HLN. “You know I haven’t been to ‘City once? I need that rest to stay.”
Much respect from the coach
And usable, he has been doing that from the start. “I feel a lot of respect from the coach. He also appointed me as captain and that makes me proud. On the other hand, I didn’t know the group very well and didn’t just pass by. But I did not enter the dressing room as a star and that plays a role in my advantage.”
If it is good off the field, it will also be good on the field. Alderweireld hopes that there are still big moments on the field. “My coming to Belgium completes the circle for me. Although that sounds a bit like this is the end. While … to me this is just a beginning. I really want to help build something here. One day the Champions League to Bringing Antwerp: that’s my dream.”
