The Toulousains delight their supporters at the start of the season, and even all the followers, in the wake of their rise. Captain Brecht Dejaegere, happy, takes stock and hopes for only one thing: that it lasts!
Brecht Dejaegere is the captain of a Toulouse FC which continues on its rendering of its magnificent last season in Ligue 2, occupying the fourth place – admittedly very provisional – after two days of Ligue 1, thanks to a draw in front of Nice (1- 1) then a big victory at Troyes (0-3): “It’s good to hear good things about us, we’re going to give everything to keep it going. We haven’t really changed anything, we just have to to have the Ligue 1 click in the head, to adapt as quickly as possible in order to obtain good results. We try to remain faithful to our philosophy, to press high and play the ball.” However, the Belgian attacking midfielder is also aware that “the teams are better, so you also have to find a way to do without the ball”.
For Philippe Montanier’s men, it’s an adventure and they will have to learn complicated matches as quickly as possible. As the long-awaited reception of Paris Saint-Germain, for example, in two weeks (fifth day on Wednesday August 31)… The former player of La Gantoise wants to be “realistic”: “We have just gone up, we still have to gain experience.” Hoping that Rhys Healey, carried by his goal in Troyes, finally wants to stay at the TFC, Dejaegere finally reveals the existence of his curious nickname “Bibiche”: “People have trouble pronouncing my name in France. At La Gantoise, I remembered my teammate Dylan Bronn called his buddies ‘Biche’ so it was easier and I said do it like that, then ‘Bibiche came over.’ Take the plunge, so it was written.
