Nagyvárad – The gold rings will be cleaned and restored, and they can be exhibited at the Körösvidéki Museum at the end of the year.
An ancient grave was found near the Hungarian border, in Bihar county in Romania, reports Art News.
A lot of objects were recovered from the resting place, including 169 gold rings used as hair ornaments, about 800 pearls and a copper bracelet.
Călin Ghemiș, the archaeologist of the Körösvidék Museum in Nagyvárad, and his colleagues excavated this year between March and June. According to Gabriel Moisa, director of the institution, it is a fantastic discovery.
The tomb was made for an extremely wealthy woman and is associated with the Tisza Burgher culture of the Stone Age.
This culture existed between 4500 and 4000 BC in Central and Eastern Europe. According to Ghemiș
the gold hoard is sensational, as only 150 pieces of gold have been known from the Carpathian basin of the time.
The researchers identified the deceased as a woman based on the size of the skeleton and the lack of weapons. The remains were sent to Marosvásárhely and the Netherlands for examination, and the experts want to carry out carbon isotope and genetic tests. The gold rings will be cleaned and restored, and they can be exhibited at the Körösvidéki Museum in Nagyvárad at the end of the year.
