Municipal elections Prague 2022: How the parties deal with apartment prices
Municipal elections are already taking place on September 23 and 24, 2022, and you still haven’t decided who you’re going to vote for? That is why we have prepared a number of articles for you in which we present the views of parties and movements on certain topics, and their answers could help you make a decision. This time we asked the leaders how we will solve the rising prices of apartments and unaffordable housing.
A question was sent to all leaders and leaders:
How will you deal with rising apartment prices and unaffordable housing in Prague?
Pirates (Zdeněk Hřib): We are already solving the crisis. We’re fixing up city apartments and pushing for Airbnb regulation
We pay a lot of attention to solving the housing crisis, rent and real estate prices are constantly rising, many young people are solving this problem, but not only them. But the housing crisis cannot be solved overnight. It is a long shot and systematic work is needed to help improve housing affordability in the long term.
Our councilor Adam Zábranský has already started it. We ended the privatization of city apartments, had those that needed it repaired, launched the City Rent Agency, acquired land for new urban construction, approved the developer participation methodology, prepared a new metropolitan plan, and so on. We founded the Prague Development Company, which is already preparing projects for thousands of new city apartments.
We are also pushing for the government to give us powers to regulate Airbnb and similar platforms that impair housing affordability. We would like to continue this work in the next election period as well.
