Bob pilot Katrin Beierl (Austria) suffers a stroke while on vacation
Big shock on vacation for Katrin Beierl! The successful Austrian bobsleigh pilot (including two medals at European Championships) experienced a stroke while on vacation in Peru. Ironically, on her 29th birthday, the athlete spoke up – from the hospital.
“I’m out now. On August 11, I had a stroke while I was on vacation in Peru,” Beierl explained via Instagram. “The whole thing is of course a huge shock for me. But I know that I was still very lucky”, the Austrian still sees the positive side of this bad situation.
Stroke: Bob pilot Beierl thought she had a migraine
At first she saw that her headache would be a migraine. But the bitter realization followed after Beierl flew home to Austria and was diagnosed with a stroke in Vienna.

The result of the stroke: Beierl sees “almost nothing” on her left, as she reports. Nevertheless, the bob pilot is combative: “The doctors say that some of the eyesight can come back. I’m absolutely positive and will do everything I can.”
It is currently uncertain what her sporting future looks like: “It is even uncertain whether I will be able to drive a car or the bobsleigh again. I’ll have to stay in the hospital for a while but I’ll do my best to push hard and get most of my vision back!”
Her national coach Wolfgang Stampfer also showed up when asked by the “Crown newspaper“shocked, but of course the most important thing is that Kati gets well again”.
