On the penultimate day of round robin action at the Junior World Cup, one of the marquee matches takes place with two of the world powers, with other exciting matches on the Sunday schedule.

FINLAND (2-0-0) vs. SLOVAKIA (1-2-0)

Finland had a bit of a tough time against the Czech Republic in their second match of the tournament on Thursday. The Finns fell behind 2-0 early in the contest, but came back with a pair to tie the game early in the second period, although Aatu Raty gave Finland the lead in the third period, the Czechs were able to come back to tie the game. The game ended up going beyond overtime and into a penalty shootout. Roby Jarventie and Kasper Simontaival scored to give the Finns the 4-3 win. Jarventie also scored in regulation, while Leevi Merilainen made 23 saves in the winning effort.
Slovakia avoided disaster when they met Latvia on Friday. After Latvia scored first in the first 20 minutes, Adam Sykora found the back of the net, before Dalibor Dvorsky gave the Slovaks the lead in the second period. Latvia equalized late in the frame, and with no goals scored in the third period, overtime was called for. After extra time was inconclusive, Roman Faith and Matej Kaslik scored in the shootout to give Slovakia the 3-2 win. Netminder Simon Latkoczy came up big when called upon, stopping 23 of the 25 shots he faced.
CZECH REPUBLIC (1-1-1) vs. LATVIA (0-2-1)

Latvia came oh-so-close to pulling off the upset against Slovakia on Friday night. Dans Locmelis gave the Latvians the lead midway through the first period, before the Slovaks came back with a pair of goals in the second period. Niks Fenenko tied it at two, but neither team could score for the remainder of regulation or overtime, thanks to Bruno Bruveris, who ended up making 39 saves in the Latvian net. However, Slovakia would find a way to pull it out in the shootout, leaving Latvia with just one point.
The Czech Republic had their hands full with the host Canadians on Saturday night. Despite Martin Rysavy scoring the first goal for the Czechs, Canada came back with two goals before the end of the first, before reeling off three more en route to beating the Czech Republic 5-1. The Czechs were outshot 57-23, with Tomas Suchanek making some spectacular saves, despite taking the loss.

The winner of this game will most likely get the top seed in Group B.
Sweden had a much more convincing win in their second match of the tournament compared to the first. After narrowly beating the Swiss on Wednesday, the Swedes hammered the Austrians by six goals on Friday. After Simon Edvinsson opened the scoring in the opening frame, Tre Kronor added three in the second period to take a commanding lead. They were able to cruise the rest of the way to a 6-0 win. Emil Andrae scored twice and added an assist as well, while Fabian Lysell also had a goal and an assist. Isak Rosen and Theodor Niederbach rounded off the goals for Sweden against Switzerland.
It was another game and another dominant performance by the USA when they took on Austria on Saturday. Unlike previous games in the tournament, the Americans scored early and often. Wyatt Kaiser scored less than a minute into the game and scored twice in the opening 20 minutes. The USA finished with four in the first period, before Carter Mazur scored a pair in the second. The Americans took it easy from there and won 7-0. Matthew Coronato and Sasha Pastujov each had a goal and an assist, and Red Savage also found the back of the net for the USA
