The Prague Pride festival culminates today in Prague with a rainbow parade

Prague – Prague Pride, the festival of the pride of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans and queer people (LGBT+) culminates today in Prague. The so-called rainbow parade will pass through the center in the afternoon for the tenth time. This time there will be no allegorical cars, which the organizers justified by emphasizing sustainability. The participation of 20,000 people was reported to the municipality. The parade is taking place for the first time since 2019, it did not take place in the previous two years due to the covid-19 pandemic. Security will be monitored by the police during the event, opponents of the parade have not reported any protests this year, according to her. There will also be some limited traffic.
The procession from the lower part of Wenceslas Square will leave around 1:00 p.m., but the participants will they will meet in the square already before noon. The procession will pass through Na Příkopě and Celetná streets, through Staroměstské náměstí and further along Pařížská street to the Vltava and over the Čechův bridge. He will then continue up the stairs to Letná. The organizers will arrange for people with impaired mobility or parents with prams from the stairs to the Summer trip by bus.
In Letenské sady and then on the plain will be music and accompanying program until the evening, on six stages. For example, Tom Auspaul, Girli or the band We Are Domi will perform.
The twelfth year of the Prague Pride festival, which started on Monday, will last until August 14. There were approximately 150 events on the program this year. The motto of the year is Heart things – i.e. the heart matters or matters of the heart, which, according to the organizers, reflects the human rights aspect of the festival.
According to previous organizers, the number of visitors to the Prague Pride festival increased every year until 2018, when 92,000 arrived. In 2019, there were 75,000 of them and 30,000 people took part in the parade, organizers said earlier. In 2020, it appeared online only. Last year, part of the program was moved to outdoor spaces, a total of 25,000 people arrived, but the parade was not held again.
The Prague Pride show with a parade appeared for the first time in August 2011. At that time, it caused stormy protests from conservatives. According to them, the festival was obscene and in bad taste imposed the ideology of homosexuality. This one used the then president Václav Klaus, according to whom it was necessary to fight against it. In the following years, the protest actions gradually weakened.
