Toulouse. The Nakache swimming pool closes, the opposition steps up to the plate
While a new heat wave is raging, the large pool of the Nakache swimming pool in Toulouse is closed for technical reasons this Tuesday, August 9. The municipal opposition is stepping up.
The large pool of the Nakache swimming pool, on the Ile du Ramier in Toulouse, is closed “due to a technical problem”, announces the website of the municipality since Monday, August 8. This is bad news for holidaymakers in the Pink City as a fourth heat wave is already being felt. No date of return to service has been announced.
This is the second closure of the largest swimming pool in Toulouse during this summer. The large basin of the Nakache swimming pool is 150 meters long and 48 meters wide. It already had to close on July 20, again during a heat wave, for technical reasons. The heavy traffic had required additional unscheduled maintenance.
The opposition denounces the swimming pool plan of the town hall of Toulouse
Monday August 1, the Chapou swimming pool, located a stone’s throw from the Twin Bridges in Toulouse, was also closed due to a “technical problem”. What bring the municipal opposition to step up. The group Alternative municipaliste citoyenne (AMC) estimates in a press release that “the management of swimming pools, and more generally of bodies of water by the town hall and the metropolis of Toulouse, shows its limits”.
“The technical closures are done in the most total opacity. What are the reasons that led the town hall to close Papus and Nakache in the heat wave? Nobody knows. The dilapidated state of the swimming pools is alarming,” writes the opposition. She believes that “the swimming pool plan deployed for five years now is proving ineffective” and asks for a public report on the state of the swimming pools of the Pink City.
