Since 2018, the town hall has been involved in trying to restore the southeastern part of the park located in the territory of the Prague 2 district above the north-south highway. At that time, the part adjacent to the National Museum was being renovated in the immediate vicinity, but this only took place in the territory of the Prague 1 district.
As stated on town hall website of the second city district, the revitalization of the park between Legerova, Škrétova and Čelakovského sady streets followed partial repairs carried out in previous years, when the town hall had the stairwell and walls repaired. The budget for the currently completed works was approximately 7.1 million crowns.
The reconstruction of both parts of the Čelakovský orchards, connected by an underpass under the highway, is now complete.

“I am glad that after many lengthy negotiations with the preservationists, the staff of the Institute of Planning and Development of the Capital City of Prague and the architects, we managed to reach an agreement and we can implement the project,” said Deputy Mayor Václav Vondrášek (ODS), who works in the field of the environment and also in the field of construction and territorial development and the field of historic preservation.
The overall reconstruction affected retaining walls, park sidewalks and paths. There are new sidewalks made of granite paving and paths made of stones, new rest areas have also been built here. The park furniture has been completely transformed, there are new benches, baskets and public lighting lamps for visitors. The renewed and newly planted greenery will now be irrigated centrally.
“In the revitalized part of the park, a full-fledged relaxation zone full of greenery was created, which conceptually follows the neighboring part of Prague 1,” added Vondrášek.
