AS Monaco and PSV Eindhoven parted ways in a 1-1 draw last week at Louis II. The two teams meet again tonight. at the Philips Stadion to play the second leg from third preliminary round of Champions League. It was ultimately PSV Eindhoven who won after the end in extra time.
At the end of the 90 minutes, the two teams again parted ways in a 2-2 draw. The Monegasques were dragged down following Veerman’s opener in the 21st minute. In the second half, AS Monaco largely dominated and logically equalized thanks to Maripan on a set piece, in the 58th min. Before captain Wissam Ben Yedder gave the Ligue 1 club the lead in the 70th min. But PSV did not let go and returned to the score and snatched the extension on a rather contentious goal from Gutierrez.
PSV and Monaco therefore met in extra time to determine the winner of this double confrontation. Unlucky throughout the game, ASM hit the quantities of Walter Benitez twice and once in extra time. Unfortunately for Monaco, it was the Dutch who consumed the advantage with a goal from former Barça Luuk De Jong in the 109th minute. PSV wins 3-2 on the return leg and qualifies for the UCL play-off where they will meet Glasgow Rangers who beat Union Saint-Giloise. ASM will therefore play in the Europa League this season, like the previous one.
