New sensors on chair legs – Zurich is now monitoring its chairs
Zurich is now monitoring its chairs
The new devices on the Münsterhof and on the Vulkanplatz measure just about everything: sitting time, temperature, noise level – even humidity. What is behind the test attempt.
The white sensors have recently been attached to chairs on Vulkanplatz and Münsterhof. The city’s civil engineering department wants to know how the chairs are used on Zurich’s squares. Therefore, the city and ETH Zurich are testing new types of sensors. If these prove their worth, they could be used for the planning of public spaces.
The sensors die occupancy and length of stay on the chairs. Overall, the location of the chairs, the temperature, the humidity and the noise level are collected, as the city announced on Monday.
The test is intended to provide information on how reliable the sensors are. In addition, data transmission and evaluation as well as sustainability are checked. The city writes that data protection and the privacy of users are guaranteed.
