tour | The Russian coach started work as the winner of the US Open. Who did Tursunov train and how will he help Radukan?
The strongest tennis player in the UK Emma Radukanu works with an open coach
Dmitry Tursunov – top. chosen athlete, he looked into the top 20 of the international ranking, took seven titles alone, reached the 1/8 finals at Wimbledon. In terms of great achievements, Dmitry, of course, is sparse, but successful coaches subsequently grow out of such athletes. So in our case, in general, it happened.
At the end of July, Tursunov began managing a promising, future, representative Emma Radukanu. Due to the fact that a Russian coach can be useful to a young Briton, Dmitry faces such tasks and, as a new specialist, Radukan was answered in her homeland.
Why does Radukan need a new coach?
Briefly about Emma herself. Born in Canada, but British citizenship, 19 years old, 10th racket of the world (her maximum in the WTA rankings). At the heart of the Grand Slam tournaments, Radukan began playing last year. Then she won her first and so far major title – at the US Open. After this game, the British went into decline.
Parallel to the sad decline in her career, Emma has dabbled in advertising and modeling, but it’s probably the right thing to say that it’s time to transfer her beauty from the cover to the court.
Radukan and, as we already understand, her new coach have important tasks: to find stability, regain the necessary skills and get in shape for the upcoming tournaments. To be more precise: prepared for the defense at the US Open. At the US Open last year, Emma trained under the watchful eye of Andrew Richardson, but his vision for Britain seems to have become blurred: the success of the collaboration has failed for the second year in a row. But Tursunov has a clear and tasty look. It is he who must help Radukan achieve what he wants.
Will the Russian and the British get along?
Must.
Tennis is one of the possible sports, Major, which is trying to stay as far away from politics as possible today. The only reason that began to impede the work of Tursunov and Radukan was a hatred with the defeat of the side. But for professionals from the tennis world, the passport is not so important, because we will talk about the decline in fans later.
Before Radukan, Tursunov trained Anette Kontaveit. During the year of cooperation with the Russian, the Estonian won five WTA trophies and made her way higher into the top 2 of the international ranking. Even before there was a Belarusian Arina Sobolenko. Under the sensitive hand of Dmitry, she flew into the top 10. Words about the positive dynamics of Tursunov’s tennis players after such data are redundant, aren’t they?
With regard to American athletes, Dmitry is an amazing thing. Tursunov’s cooperation with Kontaveit, to identify the tennis player, is closed due to the Russian’s problems with visas. And how did it happen that today Dmitry freely trains Radukan in the USA?
There are several versions: Tursunov really had problems with visas, which were not given. Or have visa problems persisted, only the fact that the new Russian athlete Emma has a different attitude to this, more understanding, has changed? Perhaps the visa was just a pretext for breaking off cooperation between Kontaveit and Tursunov. There is a feeling that the final version is the most correct. Everything is foreseen in practice: when the tournaments and trips begin, then it is clear whether the problem will become precisely in Tursunov’s visa.
If we return to the question of whether Radukan and Tursunov go as a working duet, it is necessary to say about the vision of volume inflammation in the body. Dmitry is prone to aggressive, attacking tennis. Emma is young, perky, and based on her new coach’s seal is perfect. In addition, Tursunov is humorous, open, active. Radukan seems the same. It is unlikely that they will be bored together.
The reaction of the British to the Russian in the game Radukan
Tennis, of course, is trying to undo the hardness of the political background sewn into the whole sport, but something is getting in the way. One big knot in the form of public opinion and fan censure. There is no point in explaining something here. I just suggest looking at the headlines and comments of the British regarding the duet of Tursunov and Radukan.
“It’s disappointing to see a Russian training to rise to the number one star in the UK. It can be assumed that the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) will monitor this issue and be able to advise Emma on how best to proceed ”(official Julian Knight).
“The Kremlin is presenting this as a PR achievement and as an indication that the UK is not doing what is allowed in Ukraine en masse, so it would be a great pity if Emma goes for it. I strongly recommend that she think again” (politician Krist Bryant).
“Emma Raducanu risks controversy for collaborating with Russian coach ahead of US Open title defense” (The Telegraph)
Are there any rewards for Radukan following this? Hardly. Will Emma heed the constant advice of politicians? Big question. Tursunov is too good at his job to make his new ward doubt the correctness of the choice made.
